Begam and her twin babies allowed to leave hospital after first lady Shakya’s initiative

Begam Khatun, 30, of Chhireshwornath Municipality was confined in a private hospital’s bed in Janakpur for failing to pay the treatment cost.

As her husband Mohammad Samir Nadaf’s all efforts to manage the treatment costs turned futile, he sought help from the media and the news about new-mother Begam was disseminated through the National News Agency (RSS).

Being informed through the media, Prime Minister’s spouse Radhika Shakya responded to the issue immediately and took initiative on her personal level for Begam’s discharge.

Then, Begam returned home on Friday.

After reading the news, Shakya had asked the local police administration to immediately resolve the issue.

It is said that the hospital administration exempted the remaining dues of Begam’s treatment.

Talking to RSS over phone, Samir said he was thrilled and his happiness boundless.

“The hospital let us go home. They said the issue of money is settled,” he said, adding that he however was not aware about the person who cleared the dues incurred for the treatment of his wife and newborns.

After labour pain, Begam was admitted to the hospital on July 1. She was discharged from the hospital after four days but was not allowed to leave the hospital bed for failing to pay Rs 110,000 in dues.

The hospital administration has claimed that the treatment cost increased as the infants were treated by keeping in NICU.
