Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) Agni Prasad Sapkota has asserted that the moves made against principle of separation of power, control and balance has been restricted yet again.
The statement here has a bearing with the Supreme Court’s recent mandamus order given for the restoration of the HoR that was dissolved by President Bidya Devi Bhandari on May 23 on the recommendation of the Oli-led government.
In the first meeting of the HoR since the restoration of the parliament, Speaker Sapkota said that the ill-effort to undermine the dignity of HoR has been controlled.
Sapkota expressed his confidence that the restoration of HoR would give impetus to political stability in the country and would encourage the leadership to materialize the aspirations of the public for prosperity and development of the country.
He viewed that the new leadership had responsibility to develop and propagate the political cultural that is based on consensus, sensibility and cooperation and implement the electoral system embraced by the country and by doing so, the constitutional system would get an impetus.
“With the HoR becoming active again, we have got an opportunity to exercise sovereignty and have got responsibility to make the HoR more people-oriented, lively and active,” the Speaker opined, expressing his belief for constructive role of the HoR members, political parties representing in the parliament and parliamentarians among others.
Speaker Sapkota also observed that the verdict of the Supreme Court regarding the restoration of the HoR was historic one as it was taken adhering to the essence and sentiments of the constitution and principle of the sovereignty of democracy.
Sapkota also congratulated all the HoR members for the restoration of the people’s representative institution where sovereignty and democracy are exercised.
He also expressed his thankfulness to all the political parties, intellectuals, media, civil society and public for their contribution in a bid to reinstate the HoR’s sovereign rights.
