Gender-inclusiveness underscored in governance system

Chief Election Commission Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya viewed that gender equality and social inclusion in various sectors in the country remains elusive due to pragmatic problems rather than legal.

Chief Commissioner Thapaliya asserted so at a discussion with the office-bearers of the constitutional agencies at the office of the Election Commission of Nepal on Thursday.

Thapaliya lamented that there dismal representation of women in executive positions in various sectors of the State and thereby underscored the need for coordination and collaboration among all agencies to make governance system inclusive in all ways and manner.

The participants along with the office-bearers of the Election Commission of Nepal deliberated on wide range of issues pertaining to the impending by-elections in November this year, according to Spokesperson of the Commission, Raj Kumar Shrestha.

They also dwelt on the role of the constitutional agencies, challenges in holding and managing the elections, gender and social inclusion policy, monitoring of the election and implementation of the election code of conduct and its monitoring among others.

Present in the discussion were representatives from the Public Service Commission, National Human Rights Commission, National Women Commission, Indigenous Nationalities Commission and National Inclusion Commission among others.
