Monsoon Preparedness and Response Plan-2078 BS endorsed

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Executive Committee led by the Minister of Home Affairs has endorsed the Monsoon Preparedness and Response Plan-2078 BS.

The Ministry said that the Plan was introdcued to minimize losses incurred by monsoon-induced disaster and to make rescue, rehabilitation and relief process more effective through coordinated efforts as the monsoon has already set in the country recently.

Last year, more than 400 people were killed due to monsoon caused disasters and over 1,000 people were affected.

Govinda Rijal, Chief of Division of Disaster Management, shared that today’s meeting of the Committee dwelt on how to minimize the losses of lives and properties during the monsoon and other natural disasters.

Minister for Home Affairs Khagaraj Adhikari assured that there will not be any resources crunches on the part of the Ministry in rescue, relief and rehabilitation process of the disaster survivors.

Minister Adhikari instructed the District Disaster Management Committee to be more active to respond to the monsoon-induced disasters.

The disaster-prone areas and COVID-19 risks zones have been identified while the meeting also reviewed the loss incurred by the monsoon-related disasters recently in Sindupalchowk and Manang district among.

National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority’s Deputy Spokesperson Bednidhi Khanal said that the Minister instructed all the line agencies to make sure no one loses their lives to natural disasters due to the weakness on the part of the government agencies.

The meeting also approved some procedures along with response plans relating to rehabilitation of the fire and wildfire survivors.

Altogether 155 open and safe spaces (relocation) have been identified in the country where the survivors of natural disasters could flee to safety and relocate themselves as the disasters hit.

Meanwhile, Disaster Risk Reduction Management National Council chaired by the Prime Minister is set to convene soon to assess the disasters occurring these days and will dwell on the measures to minimize the risk, said Khanal.
