NC general secretary pays tribute to trade union leader Kunwar

Nepali Congress (NC) general secretary Dr Shashanka Koirala has paid tribute to Nepal Trade Union Congress advisor Ramji Kunwar. Kunwar, also the former senior vice chair of the Union, died in course of the treatment at Maharajgunj-based Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) on Monday. He was 65.

Though he was initially diagnosed with COVID-19 infection, later his PCR test report came negative. Visiting the Trade Union Congress central office, Anamnagar, this morning, NC general secretary Koirala and other Congress leaders paid tributes to Kunwar.

Party former general secretary Prakash Man Singh, joint general secretary Sunil Bahadur Thapa, central members Arjun Narasingh KC, Dr Minendra Rijal, Gagan Kumar Thapa, Badri Pandey, chief political adviser to the Prime Minister, Bishnu Rimal, CPN-Maoist Centre province assembly member and president of the Joint Trade Union Coordination Committee, jagat Simkhada, NC Kaski district president Krishna KC, among others, along with Koirala paid tributes to the late Kunwar.

Meanwhile, party senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel and central member Dr Shekhar Koirala reached the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj on Monday and expressed their condolences to Kunwar’s family. Kunwar had been involved in Nepal’s trade union movement for a long time and his body was taken to Kaski for last rites.

Also, an emergency meeting of the Nepal Trade Union Congress held today said that Kunwar’s demise had caused an irreparable loss to the country’s democratic and labor movement. The meeting decided to close the all district offices, including the central office, for three days, in mourning the demise of Kunwar, according to Union Vice-Chair Ajay Kumar Rai.
