Clarification sought from NTB CEO Regmi

The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation has summoned Nepal Tourism Board’s CEO Dr Dhananjay Regmi and sought clarification on the incident that occurred at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on November 6.

A dispute erupted between the customs staffers at Customs Office at TIA and CEO Dr Regmi on Saturday morning while the latter was returning home after attending the International Travel Mart in the UK. News began to spread like a wildfire in the social networking sites saying Dr Regmi and customs staffs went on to manhandle each other.

The Ministry has directed the concerned authority to seek written clarification from NTB’s CEO Dr Regmi after obtaining information from the both sides involved in the incident.

Meanwhile, NTB, issuing a press statement, said that its attention was drawn towards the news in the media relating to the incident. According to the NTB, Dr Regmi had raised question about the lackadaisical attitude of the customs staffers while he arrived to the custom clearance section of the Airport and the incident was blown out proportion.

The NTB explained there was a tiff between Dr Regmi and customs staffers when the former urged the latter to improve their service and render prompt services.

After the customs staffers hurled foul words at Dr Regmi, altercation ensued between the staffers and Dr Regmi, the NTB said, adding that the incident was exaggerated. Denying any truth in the incident, the NTB refuted that Dr Regmi mistreated the customs staffers under the influence of alcohol.
