Four mayors and governors affiliated with the ruling Saenuri Party have called on President Park Geun-hye in unison to immediately form a neutral Cabinet.
Gyeonggi Province Governor Nam Kyung-pil, Jeju Governor Won Hee-ryong, Ulsan Mayor Kim Ki-hyun and Daegu Mayor Kwon Young-jin, made the urge during a four-way meeting in Seoul on Tuesday, saying it is necessary to resolve the political crisis brought forth by the Choi Soon-sil scandal.
Nam, who organized the meeting, said the four agreed that the ruling and opposition parties should sincerely cooperate with each other to overcome the crisis.
They were said to have proposed to give the opposition parties the right to appoint a new prime minister.
Regarding growing calls within the ruling bloc for the resignation of the party's chairman, Lee Jung-hyun, the four leaders said they need to discuss it more with other governors or mayors before commenting.
