Apex court refuses Alam’s release

The Supreme Court has refused to release Nepali Congress leader and former minister Mohammad Aftab Alam on bail.

Alam has been in judicial custody on a blast and murder case in Rautahat district.

A division bench of Justice duo, Sushmalata Mathema and Nahakul Subedi, upheld the verdict of the Birgunj bench under the High Court, Janakpur to refuse the release of Alam on bail.

In the murder of those injured in the bomb blast in course of the Constituent Assembly election on 9 April 2008, the district court ordered Alam to be kept on judicial custody.

Alam was accused of burning them alive in a brick kiln.

After the Brigunj bench under the High Court, Janakpur upheld the district court's verdict, Alam moved the apex court seeking his release on bail.
