Call to initiate university level education on ‘Bisistadwait Philosophy’

Various speakers have highlighted the need to advance university level education in ‘Bisistadwait (a school of Vaisnava) Philosophy’. At a launching of a book ‘Shree Ramanujacharya Bisistadwait Darshan’ organized here by Shree Vaisnava Youth Council on Friday, the participants called for the arrangement of formal education based on Bisistadwait philosophy propounded by Ramanujacharya.

On the occasion, centenarian culture expert Satyamohan Joshi said the world’s biggest stone sculpture based in Budhanilakantha was a living history of Vainsava community. Informing that the statue of Bamanthat was stolen from Lazimpat and exported outside has been returned and kept at Chhauni-based National Museum, he said there were numerous examples how the existence of Vaisnava community was protected through the medium of statue.

Vice-Chancellor of Nepal Sanskrit University (NSU) Prof Dr Yadav Prakash Lamichhane said the teaching and learning of ‘Bisistadwait philosophy can be initiated after rounds of discussion if the faculty can be operated in the long run. He said the subject of such historical importance can be advanced for university education.

Nepal Academy’s Vice-Chancellor Jagaman Gurung demanded the study of Bisistadwait philosophy. The NSU and Academy are holding a workshop about the operation of classes in the philosophy, he further shared.

NSU’s former Vice-Chancellor Prof Madhav Raj Gautam stressed the need to find out the reason behind dillydally in running classes of Bisistadwait philosophy since a memorandum of understanding to that effect was signed 20 years ago.

Also speaking on the occasion, Muktinath Peethadhish Swami Kamalnayanacharya, Council’s General-Secretary Sudarshan Nepal, Prof DrKashinath Neupane, Prof Dr Bhagawat Dhakal, Associate Prof Dr Narayan Prasad Gartaula, book’s chief editor Dr Raghunath Nepal, Council’s Chairperson Rishi Prapannacharya and Vaishnava Council Chairperson Devraj Acharya, among others demanded university level education of the philosophy.
