Call to protect the life of Ganga Maya

January 21, 2021     Comment Closed     Human Rights

The National Human Rights Commission has urged the government to take effective steps to ensure justice to Ganga Maya Adhikari, and protect her life. Issuing a statement today, NHRC spokesperson Dr Tikaram Pokharel reiterated its call to implement the agreements reached in the past between the government and Adhikari.

The NHRC has also urged Adhikari not to choose the risky path like a hunger strike. The Commission has been regularly monitoring the state of health of Adhikari who has been staging strikes demanding legal action against those involved in the murder of her son Krishna Prasad Adhikari. The Bagmati provincial office of the Commission has written to the Ministry of Health and Population and Bir Hospital to ensure proper medical care and treatment of her, to thereby save her life.

Lately, Adhikari has been staging a fast unto death since December 21 at the Trauma Centre under Bir Hospital. Her health is deteriorating day after day, despite treatment at the emergency unit of the centre.
