The Election Commission (EC) has been updating the filing of candidacy for local level election, 2079. Today (Sunday) is the first day of nomination filing.
As per update made by the EC information system till 7:30pm Sunday, total 10,012 candidacies were registered. The technicians at EC entry the data on candidacy registration in the EC information system which is being authenticated by chief election officers. So, actual statistics is yet to be ascertained.
The information technology section at EC is processing the statistics. As per the section, total 973 have filed candidacy for the posts of chair/mayor of rural/municipalities while 494 filed for vice chair/deputy mayor, 2,826 for ward chairperson. For the post of ward members (all category combined), 10,107 candidacies have been filed.
The EC has allocated two days for the candidacy filing- April 24-25 from 10:00am to 5:00pm.
Meanwhile, the EC issued a press release, informing that printing of ballot papers should be continued as the time would not suffice after completion of candidacy filing. It also reminded the legal provision that printing of ballot papers should be finished before 15 days of election publicity.
