The nation's 71st Police Day was marked with a ceremony at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in central Seoul Thursday morning.
The ceremony was attended by some three-thousand people, including National Police Agency Commissioner Lee Chul-sung, Interior Minister Hong Yun-sik and chairman of the Korea National Police Veterans Association Gu Jae-tae.
The police chief vowed in a speech that the police will take the lead in creating a fair and transparent society. He also expressed appreciation for the public's support.
A total of 397 police officers were granted orders of merit and commendations in recognition of their outstanding services. The Daejeon Metropolitan Police Agency received a presidential award.
