Chief Justice (CJ) Cholendra Shamsher Rana has extended best wishes to all Nepalis living in the country and abroad on the occasion of the Constitution Day today.

Issuing a press statement, the CJ has stated that the constitution was promulgated through the Constituent Assembly (CA) by meeting people’s decades-long expectations and is being marked as the national festival since its promulgation.

The press release further reads that it was high time that constitution was implemented searching for new hope, expectation and chances in the critical time caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The State bodies should forge mutual harmony, trust and understanding to create trustworthy environment to the people, it is stated in the press release.

Chief Justice Rana further stated that the day may create energy and inspirations among all. He said that the judiciary was always effortful to ensure justice to all and implement the provision of the constitution. “The constitution was not a document to run the state mechanisms as it was a progressive document of peoples’ lifestyle,” CJ Rana said. All state organs, mechanisms and bodies should play effective roles to materialize the dream of prosperity, he viewed.

According to CJ Rana, the constitution was not only the document of political change but also the document of state restructuring, governance system and change in social and political systems. He has also recalled that the constitution has ensured a multi-party democratic political system, civil liberty, human rights, periodic election, press freedom, independent judiciary and rule of law.
