The Nepal Health Professionals Council has sought an explanation from six health workers for providing nasal and throat swab of a COVID-19 infected Nepali youth to a foreigner for genetics studies without Council’s knowledge and consent.
A letter written by administrative chief of the Council Yuwaraj Kharel here today has sought clarification from Dr Runa Jha, Dr Ranjit Shah of the National Public Health Laboratory, Dr Anup Bastola of Sukraraj Tropical and Infectious Diseases Hospital, Dr Basudev Pandey, Director of the Epidemiology and Infectious Disease Control Division, Division’s Dr Bibek Kumar Lal and Dr Hemanta Chandra Ojha.
The doctors, the Council claimed, had provided the nasal and throat swab of an infected Nepali youth to foreigner for research on the genetics study of COVID-19 without obtaining permission from the Council.
A research paper was published on the Microbiology Resources Announcement on the genetic studies of the COVID-19 in the Nepali youth without approval from the Council.
According to Kharel, they should furnish clarification within seven days.
