Country saved from accident after MCC Compact ratification, Prachanda says

npadmin February 28, 2022     No Comment     General

CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has argued that ways to ratify the MCC Compact with interpretative declaration was sought to safeguard the political achievements obtained from people’s struggles.

Organising a news conference at his residence on Monday, the Maoist Centre Chairman said the MCC Compact was ratified after sensing that the peace process and the political achievements were at risk.“The country has been saved from accident after the ratification of the MCC Compact by the parliament with interpretative declaration. The constitution is also saved,” Dahal said.

“The issue of keeping current coalition was not a big deal but the country is saved from going at the hands of regressive ones. This has received legal and legitimate way forward,” according to Prachanda.

On the occasion, he took exception to the charges of dual role for his efforts to conclude the MCC with national consensus.

In order to make the MCC Compact in line with our national interest, different experts including former Secretary General of SAARC Arjun Bahadur Thapa and expert on international law Surya Prasad Subedi were consulted.

They said Compact’s ratification from the parliament with the interpretative declaration would get a legal recognition, Prachanda quoted the experts as saying.

Referring to some responsible politicians’ trivial comments on interpretative declaration, Prachanda stated that the Compact and interpretative declaration were ratified at once to give them the recognition of international laws.
