The Development and Technology Committee of the House of Representatives have directed the government to submit the justification on why the Kathmandu-Tarai expressway project needed three years' extension. The committee meeting held on Tuesday directed the meeting of the Council of Ministers to evaluate resources well before launching any project of national pride.
There are media reports that the international company and the construction entrepreneurs selected for this project have been blacklisted. The project office has been asked to submit detailed report to this regard as well. The government is further asked to work as per the quarterly report of the project and report to the committee.
Moreover, the Defense Ministry has been directed to provide information to the committee within a week on national pride projects undertaken by the Nepal Army and the status of the projects of national priority.
On the occasion, Secretary at Defense Ministry, Reshmiraj Pande, informed that the Kathmandu-Tarai expressway was underway despite various obstructions. He argued that it took time to prepare different DPR than the one made by ADB. Similarly, alignment was changed at Khokana.
