The so-called 2016 South Korea Dokdo Culture Grand Festival will open on Saturday at the Ttukseom Hangang Park in Seoul to help promote the nation's easternmost islets of Dokdo.
Organized by North Gyeongsang Province and the Dokdo Foundation to mark the month of Dokdo, the event will see the participation of some 15-hundred members of the Korea Youth Volunteer Association, members of Dokdo organizations at universities, foreign students and citizens.
Roughly 300 members of Dokdo organizations in some 50 universities nationwide, including Kyungpook National University, Daejeon University, Ewha Womans University and Hankuk University of Foreign Studies will hold a ceremony marking the launch of a national network.
A group of students from some 40 countries studying in South Korea will pledge to exert efforts to introduce the South Korean islets to the world.
A senior official at the North Gyeongsang Provincial office stressed that young students are expected to play a pivotal role in informing the nation and the world about Dokdo. He stressed that guarding Dokdo and strengthening territorial sovereignty are permanent tasks for all South Koreans even if the times change.
