Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Girirajmani Pokharel, has said that the education imparted by the teachers would take the country forward.
Inaugurating the National Unity General Convention of Higher Secondary School Teachers' Association Nepal (HISTAN) here today, Minister Pokharel said, "Education determines where the country heads towards. So it is in the hands of teachers what type of education to impart."
He said, "Good education imparted by the teachers is main reason behind the countries making drastic change in their development activities. Teachers should play role for our country's prosperity by imparting quality education."
Minister Pokharel urged the teachers to pay their attention to reform education and provide quality education to students. He also shared information that the government was active to address the demands of conflict-victim teachers.
The Education Minister added that problems of teachers would be resolved through mutual discussion as the government was always in favour of teachers. He said higher education act, federal education act and technical education act going to be introduced on the basis of recently brought education act.
He also urged the teachers' organisations to form an umbrella organisation as the government has been facing problem to carry out activities as there are many organisations of teachers.
Saying progress has been achieved in education and health sectors of the country, Nepali Congress leader Dr Ram Sharan Mahat said that technical human resources as per the demand of market should be produced.
He stressed that the government, teachers and management should carry out activities together to enhance the quality of education.
Outgoing Chairperson of HISTAN, Deepakraj Subedi, and Chairperson of Nepal Teachers' Association, Baburam Thapa, said that all teachers' organisations should be united and the state should address their problems.
NC leader Mahat, former education minister Dhaniram Poudel, former Finance Minister Surendra Pandey and former presidents of HISTAN, Dilli Sigdel, and Subedi, were honoured for their support in teachers' movement.
Secondary School Teachers' Union Nepal, and Nepal Community Higher-Secondary Teachers' Union were merged to form HISTAN. HISTAN chair Pushpa Prasad Neupane said that both teachers' organisations were merged as both organisations were working for a common cause.
He said that today's unity general convention would elect a 115-member new working committee.
