Education Minister calls for dialogue to avert universities’ problems

Minister for Education, Science and Technology Devendra Poudel said padlocking universities would not give a way out of the problems. He laid emphasis on holding dialogue to explore solutions to the problems.

The minister said this while addressing an event organised here on Saturday on the occasion of the 72nd anniversary of the Padma Kanya Campus.

Referring to the repeated ‘padlocking’ of universities, the minister, also the CPN (Maoist Center) secretary, said,  “Educational institutions and temples are sacred institutions. Padlocking hampers development of universities. So, please end this trend of padlocking.” He also asked the agitators to seek a solution through talks.

On the occasion, the minister assured that he himself would take initiatives to move forward the proposal to develop the Padma Kanya Campus as a separate University focusing women students.

Referring to the enactment of two University related bills by the parliament, he said, “The laws will seek solution to the problems relating to contracted employees and other issues.” —
