Eight police personnel injured in a clash with locals; curfew imposed

At least eight police personnel were injured in a clash with locals over the suspected murder incident of Sujita Bhandari. Following the incident, the Chitwan District Administration Office has imposed a curfew order to take the situation under control.

The curfew has been enforced along the highway and its surrounding area within Rapti municipality of Eastern Chitwan. The order, issued by Chief District Officer Prem Lal Lamichhane, stated that the curfew has been enforced within 500 metres of the highway from Rapti municipality-1, Lothar Bridge to Rapti-4, Dadhuwa.

The curfew order came into effect from 7.30 pm Tuesday to 7.30 pm Wednesday. The curfew was clamped after irate people were likely to obstruct the highway, dismantle private and public property and infrastructure and jeopardize public law and order flaring up the issue of Bhandari’s death.

The DAO imposed the curfew as per the Local Administration Act, 2028 BS in a way that people are not allowed to move from one place to another, gather and come out from the house without permission from local administration.

Meanwhile, at least eight police personnel sustained injuries in a scuffle with locals this evening. Four APF personnel including DSP and four of Nepal police sustained injuries in the clash, shared Chitwan Police Chief Om Adhikari.

Sujita, 23, of Rapti municipality-3 who remained out of contact since last June 25 was found dead in the Brahmasthani community forest – some four kilometers away from the house – on Sunday evening. The dead body has been taken to Kathmandu for a post-mortem.

Meanwhile, Police have stepped up its investigation into the incident.
