Power supply and telephone service in Rukum (East) remain discontinued since the past two days, affecting local people in various ways.
A storm and lightning have been blamed for the glitches in the service. Lightning damaged the telephone tower at lake in Rukum (East), disrupting the service, said chief of the telecommunications office, Rukum (East), Chandan Kumar Yadav. Repair of the damaged tower has been completed and the service would resume shortly, he added.
Similarly, transmission lines at many places have been damaged by falling trees caused by a storm, said Suresh Chaudhary, chief of the Nepal Electricity Authority distribution center. As a result, people and governmental and non-governmental organisations have been affected in many ways especially when the May 13 local election is around the corner, said the district election officer Tej Kumar Oli.
