The former chairman of the ruling Saenuri Party has called on President Park Geun-hye to withdraw from the party.
During an emergency news conference held at the National Assembly on Monday, Rep. Kim Moo-sung tried to hold the president liable for the Choi Soon-sil scandal.
Kim argued that the presidential authority entrusted by the people has been used in the Choi Soon-sil family's pursuit of undue personal gains.
While claiming that Park failed to be the guardian of the Constitution, the former party chief said the president, as the number one party member, must now abandon her membership to save the ruling bloc.
Meanwhile, Saenuri Party Spokesman Kim Sung-won said that the party's Supreme Council expressed its clear opposition to Kim's calls during a meeting.
