First National Convention of Accounting Professionals kicks off

The First National Convention of Accounting Professionals has begun in the capital with an objective of promoting, and strengthening chartered accountancy.

More than 1200 chartered accountants have been participating in the two-day convention organised by the Institute of Chartered Accounts of Nepal (ICAN).

Finance Minister Janardan Sharma inaugurated the convention. Group-wise discussion would be held on different thematic issues. According to ICAN, discussion would be held on various issues including role of regulatory body in charted accountancy, information technology in good governance, role of accounting professionals, development of chartered accountants, present situation of national economy and next step.

Saying the state has to bear a huge financial loss due to mistake in course of chartered accountancy, Finance Minister Sharma mentioned that accounting professionals should work with honesty and responsibility.

He opined, "Chartered accountancy should be clean and decent. The regulatory body, ICAN, should be able to play his role."

Auditor General Tankamani Sharma shared that accounting professionals should develop their capacity in order to compete in international level.

Similarly, Comptroller General Suman Raj Aryal opined that accounting professional should strengthen their profession and make it timely as they are the pillar showing the economic status and condition of the country.

Chairperson of Association of Chartered Accountants of Nepal, Ananda Raj Sharma, expressed the view that the state should pay attention to resolve the problems seen in course of auditing and fiscal literacy and taxpayer education should be made effective while Chairperson of Auditor's Association of Nepal, Mohan Raj Regmi said that discrimination upon accounting professionals should be ended.

Likewise, ICAN Chairperson Yuddha Raj Oli said that the convention was organised with an objective of strengthening accounting profession.
