The flood and cold wave survivors in Jalpapur of Inaruwa in Sunsari district have accused the local representatives of embezzling the fund provided to them as a relief grant.
The District Administration Office, Sunsari in fiscal year 2017/18 had released Rs 750,000 for the survivors of flood and cold wave to be distributed as the relief materials. Each flood-hit family ought to receive Rs 25,000.
The survivors blamed that the local representatives had distributed the amount to those who were aware of the relief grant. A majority of the victims were still unable to get the relief grant due to the lapses on the part of the local representatives.
One of the flood victims Tahir Miya shared that although Rs 25,000 was released in his name as a relief grant, he had not got the amount yet. He assumed that the local representatives might have fudged the papers or forged signature to keep that money to themselves.
Another victim, Mustakim Miya also claimed that his signature might have been forged and the money might have gone to the pocket of the local representatives instead of their bank account.
Similarly, Satiya Devi Khatwe of Inaruwa-10 bemoaned that all they were given after the flood wreaked havoc was beaten rice in the name of relief material.
Inaruwa Municipality Mayor Rajan Mehata vowed that those involved in misappropriation of the relief amount would be brought to book.
However, Inaruwa Municipality ward no 10 chair Mohammad Sultan Miya reaffirmed that all the relief amount provided by the local administration was sent to the bank account of the flood and cold wave survivors and there was no any case of embezzlement.
