Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today said the government is committed to control any sorts of crime. He urged security agencies to do their efforts determined and without fear in taming any untoward incidents and criminal activities. He was addressing a ceremony organised here on the occasion of the 65th Police Day at the police headquarters in the capital today.
Stressing the need for civil society to remain aware and alert about such activities in the society, he stated that the government was committed to bring stern laws against acid attacks and rape.
"The government is at work to bring stern laws to control acid attacks and rape as these criminal activities are punishable and against humanity. Covering up such criminal activities in the name of reconciliation cannot be tolerable."
The PM directed the police to stay away from settling such criminal cases with pressure. Admitting that the government was facing hard time to control global COVID-19 pandemic in the country despite efforts, he praised health workers and security personnel for their contribution during this crisis.
"Do not get terrified during the pandemic. But one should stay on high alert as the infection may attack anyone anytime," he asked the people.
PM Oli argued that there was no alternate to adopt prohibitory measures to contain the pandemics. He also wished for speedy recovery to those who were infected while following the duty.
Prime Minister Oli further said that internal security should have strengthened for national prosperity and good governance. He said Nepal police has notable roles in maintaining internal security and good governance.
On another note, PM Oli said that the crime has crossed the national border therefore security agencies should be extra alert with effective strategy to control such unlawful activity.
According to PM Oli, Nepal police has additional responsibly to dissect the rumours and strengthen national harmony and security. Prime Minister Oli committed to provide all kinds of support for the institutional and professional reforms of the police organization.
Prime Minister Oli also urged all to be alert as some forces were active to create illusion to weaken national sovereignty, harmony and nationality. PM Oli reiterated that his government has shown zero tolerance against corruption.
Similarly, Minister for Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa praised the role of police for accomplishing the additional duties caused by pandemics.
Minister Thapa directed the line agencies to prepare additional strategies to combat new kinds of threats.
Likewise, police chief Shailesh Thapa Chhetri had briefed the event about the activities conducted by police. He claimed that they were on the phase of developing new structures to reform the organization.
