Various human rights organisations have demanded that journalist Umakanta Pandey, who has been languished in jail in the United Arab Emirates, be immediately released.

The activists staged a demonstration in Kathmandu on Saturday by protesting journalist Pandey's arrest.

The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Amnesty International Nepal and UNMI Nepal expressed their solidarity with the agitation. At the protest rally, FNJ President Bipul Pokharel called for Pandey's release stating that he was jailed for writing on social sites.
