The authorities will be able to determine whether an armed robbery of a bank in Kasserine, about 320 kilometres south west of here, is a terrorist or criminal act only after the end of the police and judicial investigation, says Minister of the Interior Hichem Fourati.

"Justice has entrusted the national unit of investigation into terrorist crimes of El Gorjani with the opening of an investigation into the circumstances of this robbery, he said during a visit to inspect several police units in Sousse, about 140 km south of here, Thursday.

Four individuals armed with a Kalashnikov-type assault rifle robbed a bank branch in Ennour district, Kasserine, on Wednesday before fleeing.

"The amount of money stolen is estimated at 90,000 dinars (about 33,000 US dollars)", the bank said in a statement. "The robbery did not cause harm to the bank's employees of or its customers."
