South Korean telecom provider KT and Samsung Electronics say they have succeeded in establishing the world's first 5G connection through a network built from end-to-end 5G technologies.
The demonstration of the first call of 5G connectivity was conducted on Tuesday at Samsung's Digital City Campus in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province.
The first call refers to data transmission that proceeds under a common specification.
The specification, developed in June, satisfies major 5G-related requirements set by the International Telecommunication Union and has key technical elements that are likely to be included in international 5G standards of leading telecommunication organizations.
KT said that based on the successful test, it will now work to deliver 5G trial service at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.
