Locust swarms that entered Nepal through India have reached Banke district. The insects have been spotted in Nainapur, Duduwa and Baijanath rural municipalities, said SagarDhakal, chief of the Agriculture Knowledge Centre. The insects in significantly large number have destroyed 20 per cent of crops in the municipalities.

Chief of the rural municipality agriculture section, Sushil Sharma said local people have come up with indigenous means liked beating drums and utensils, burning firewood and creating noises to chase away the insects.
