Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens Chanda Chaudhary has called for working in unison among the government and stakeholders to secure the welfare of the vulnerable groups such as women, children, senior citizens and people with disabilities.
Stating that COVID-19 had adversely impacted the economy and trade, Minister Chaudhary spoke of the need to launch skills-based livelihood programmes for women to link them with businesses and enterprises.
She viewed that the government should help such women find capital and market to start or resume their own enterprises.
In the virtual programme organized by the Confederation of the Nepalese Industries (CNI) here today, the Minister stated that women, children, senior citizens and people with disabilities were mostly bearing the brunt of the pandemic.
Similarly, UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) member Bandana Rana shared that among those losing their employment during the COVID-19 pandemic, women constituted 70 per cent. Those women in informal sector were in more dire straits.
Likewise, United Insurance’s CEO Upasana Poudel underlined the need to provide psycho-social counseling to those staffers who faced unprecedented psychological predicament during the pandemic.
NABIL Bank’s CEO Anil Shah emphasized for collaboration among the government, private sector and non-government sector to offset the impact of COVID-19 on national economy.
Vice-President of CNI Nirvana Chaudhary stressed health security since he argued that health security was the grave challenges facing all the Nepalis in the ongoing second wave of COVID-19.
