Minister Tumbahangphe vows justice for conflict survivors

Web Desk June 8, 2020     No Comment     General

Minister for Law, Justice and Federal Affairs Dr Shiva Maya Tumbahangphe pledged no budgetary constraint for taking the peace process to a conclusion.

In her replies to questions in regard to the budget (fiscal year 2020-21) for the Ministry in a meeting of the House of Representatives today, the Minister vowed to ensure justice to the survivors of the decade-long armed conflict. Justice and reparation to the conflict victims are awaited to conclude the peace process.

The government had on 2071 BS formed two commissions: Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission on the Inquiry into Forced Disappearance to deal with the transitional justice issues and lead them to the conclusion. But the twin bodies failed to deliver results in six years.  The amendment to the Act relating to the commissions is still awaited. These issues fall under the peace process.

The Minister briefed the session that 17, out of required 31, acts relating to the fundamental rights had been enacted, but  the formulation of 14 regulations including that of the right to housing and right to food security were required for the implementation of acts.—
