WARSAW, May 26 (NNN-Xinhua) -- Paolo Alli, the president of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, said in Warsaw on Friday that NATO wants to improve and raise the level of stability, as global stability was the foundation of peace.

During a press briefing for the NATO Parliamentary Assembly's spring session, Alli stressed that the solidarity of NATO countries was not an empty word, but something practical and concrete.

He declared that NATO wanted to improve and raise the level of stability. "We believe that global stability is the foundation of peace." he added.

The Assembly's spring session, which concludes on Monday of May 28, opened at the Polish parliament building on Friday.

It will be attended by parliamentarians from NATO member states and associated countries, as well as observers.

The Monday plenary session is to be addressed by Polish President Andrzej Duda, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and Alli. The gathering will also be addressed by the speakers of both chambers of the Polish parliament.

The assembly's plenary debate will be devoted to a draft declaration confirming NATO's unity, to be passed during the July NATO summit in Brussels.

The NATO Parliamentary Assembly, founded in 1955, is composed of national members of parliament from all 29 NATO member countries.

Independent from NATO, the Assembly aims at strengthening ties between NATO members and promoting parliamentary democracy, the market economy and parliamentary control over the armed forces and security policy.--NNN-XINHUA
