The 3-member taskforce formed by the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) began the study on Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC). With this, collection of feedback on MCC has been initiated.
The MCC's proposed USD 500 million to be provided by the US government to Nepal for the development of physical infrastructure and energy has been courting controversies. The MCC should be ratified by the federal parliament first and the grant should be utilized within five years.
Emerging from the meeting of the taskforce held at the office of NCP parliamentary party's at Singha Durbar Friday evening, task force coordinator and NCP senior leader Jhalanath Khanal said the team started collecting reference materials and studying and analyzing the MCC. We will not move ahead on the basis of any whim, emotions or sentiments. We try to find truth on the basis of facts and figures, he observed.
The taskforce has been mandated to finish its study within 10 days. Khanal said if it took time for the study of the MCC, they would consult party for further extension of the term. The NCP's recently held central committee meeting had formed the taskforce. The other two members of the taskforce are leader Bhim Rawal and Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali.
The first meeting of this taskforce was held on February 3.
