A man has died after being attacked by a wild elephant at Janaki rural municipality-6 of Kailali district. Mansaram Dagaura,60, had gone to collect fern plants in the Jagatpur community forest when the incident took place on Friday.

The incident was confirmed by the Area Police Office, Tikapur. Police Inspector Arun Bam said Dagaura died after coming into attack by wild elephant in the community forest.

There has been a spate of incidents of attack by wild animals on humans lately. Increasing destruction of forest land is depriving the wild animals of food sources and hence they are wandering around looking for food and attacking humans, said Chair of the Layakpur community forest users committee Harihar Giri.

There is need to secure their habitat as well as their food sources, he said.
