President Park's apology does not go far nearly enough for South Korea's main political opposition.
Minjoo Party of Korea Chairwoman Choo Mi-ae expressed deep regret soon after the televised apology Tuesday, saying the the president made excuses for the help she received from Choi Soon-sil.
She drew particular attention to the fact that a non-government official like Choi Soon-sil was able to exert influence on the president's landmark 2014 speech on reunification in Dresden, Germany-- which took place a year after Park was inaugurated.
Choo recommended Choi be located and detained as soon as possible.
She says the people are not interested in the president's sentimental framing of the influence-peddling scandal, but in specific details of how she will manage state affairs going forward.
