The Saenuri Party welcomed the president's apology, calling it a sincere plea proving her determination to uncover the truth behind the Choi Soon-sil scandal.
Following President Park Geun-hye's news conference on Friday, the ruling party sought to underline that the president accepted the demands of the opposition side.
The main opposition Democratic Party Chairwoman Choo Mi-ae, however, criticized that Park failed to provide an answer that the frustrated public wanted to hear.
While demanding Park to immediately approve a parliamentary probe and a special prosecutor and withdraw her prime minister nominee, Choo pledged to stage an antigovernment campaign if the conditions are not met.
Minor opposition People's Party Floor Leader Park Jie-won said that the president again hurt the hearts of the people by saying that the scandal was an unexpected, undesired by-product of efforts to improve the national economy and the people's lives.
