Opposition Urges Cancellation of Reshuffle

The ruling Saenuri Party has hailed President Park Geun-hye's picks for her new chief of staff and top political affairs secretary.

Citing Han Gwang-ok's previous undertaking as former President Kim Dae-jung's chief of staff, Saenuri Party Spokesman Kim Sung-won said Thursday that Han is expected to play a significant role in overcoming the nation's current turmoil.

The Saenuri spokesman also expressed the ruling party's approval of Park's political affairs secretary Hur Won-je in reference to his skills and judgment demonstrated during his days as a journalist and lawmaker.

Meanwhile, the main opposition Democratic Party(DP) Spokesman Keum Tae-sup strongly criticized Park's latest personnel decision, calling Han a "scarecrow chief of staff."

DP Floor Leader Woo Sang-ho urged prime minister nominee Kim Byong-joon to voluntarily withdraw his acceptance of his nomination, saying there is no need to tarnish his honor.

Minor opposition People's Party Floor Leader Park Jie-won said that the only way the president can survive the current situation is to appoint a prime minister through a meeting of the ruling and the two opposition parties.
