The U.S. Defense Department says it believes the missile North Korea launched Tuesday was an intercontinental ballistic missile(ICBM).
Pentagon spokesman Capt. Jeff Davis described the North's Hwasong-14 as something the U.S. military hasn't seen before, and told reporters the missile contained a re-entry vehicle.
He also confirmed the missile was fired from an airfield in North Pyongan Province that has not been used as a missile launch site previously.
Davis did emphasize the U.S. has confidence in its ability to defend against what he called "the nascent threat" the missile poses.
