The Pentagon has reiterated Washington's stance that it will deploy the THAAD antimissile battery to South Korea as soon as possible.
Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook delivered the view in a regular media briefing on Monday when asked whether the timetable to deploy THAAD was accelerated due to North Korea's provocations.
While saying the U.S. wants the deployment to happen as quickly as possible, he added that THAAD is an issue under close coordination with the South Korean government.
Cook also cited recent remarks by U.S. Forces Korea(USFK) Commander Gen. Vincent Brooks, who said in a breakfast lecture last Friday that the THAAD deployment in South Korea will be made within eight months to ten months.
The spokesman emphasized the THAAD system is a part of measures Washington can take to protect South Korea as well as the U.S.
