The minor opposition People's Party has criticized President Park Geun-hye's nomination of Professor Kim Byong-joon as the new prime minister.
People's Party interim leader Park Jie-won said in an emergency party meeting Wednesday morning that the sudden Cabinet reshuffle shows that the president hasn't yet come to terms with reality.
He also said it is astounding that Cabinet nominations were announced without prior notice to the opposition camp after all the discussions about establishing a bipartisan Cabinet.
He also said that public rage about the reshuffle will develop into a greater call for the impeachment and resignation of the president.
He pledged not to sit back and watch the president attempt to smooth over the situation through a Cabinet reorganization.
The minor opposition leader stressed it is unacceptable if the president is trying to cover up the problem by conducting a Cabinet reshuffle when no truth from the Choi Soon-sil scandal has yet been brought to light.
Before hearing the news of the Cabinet reshuffle, Rep. Park predicted that the president's unilateral nomination of a new prime minister would not make it through a confirmation hearing and win a parliamentary approval.
He urged the president to leave the ruling party and quickly form a neutral Cabinet by appointing a prime minister jointly selected by leaders of the nation's three major parties.
