A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court today demanding authentication of the ‘Bill designed to amend the Nepal Citizenship Act, 2063.
According to the spokesperson of the Supreme Court, Bimal Paudel, a petition has been filed seeking an order to certify the Citizenship Bill. The Office of the President has been named as defendant in the petition.
The writ petition argues that the Constitution has been violated with the President not certifying the Citizenship Bill passed by the Federal Parliament (House of Representatives and the National Assembly) for the second time. Clause (4) of Article 113 of the Constitution stipulates that the President shall certify a bill within 15 days of its submission after it has been resubmitted by the government.
