Ram Pradhan and Chandra Dangi of Jhapa district, who were killed from the state side during the Panchayat regime, have been declared martyrs 47 years after their demise.
A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on March 18 declared Pradhan and Dangi as martyrs.
The name of the two martyrs was missing though the government in 2015 had declared martyrs to five others, who were shot dead in Sukhani forest in the time of Jhapa resurrection.
One of the warriors of the time and Constituent Assembly member Man Kumar Gautam termed this as a tribute to the martyrs.
Pradhan was murdered by the police personnel and pro-Panchayat people at a time when he was taking shelter at a home in Shantipur, Ilam, in October 1973.
Pradhan's colleague Khadananda Wagle said that Pradhan's wife Indramaya and two sons are earning their lives by toiling hard adding that the family has received no support from any side so far.
Similarly, Dangi was shot at his home in Birtamod in 1973.
Dangi's wife and two sons are residing in Birtamod-9. It is said that the Dangi family has also not received any support from the government.
However, both the families have expressed their pleasure for the announcement of martyrs to Pradhan and Dangi.
