President Bidya Devi Bhandari has urged one and all to work towards achieving socialism-oriented economy as envisioned by the Constitution of Nepal.
At a ceremony organized today at the Office of the President to honour various personalities for their contributions to peace, non-violence, democracy and human rights, President Bhandari commended the 'simple living high thinking' principle of late freedom fighter Mahendra Narayan Nidhi.
Stating that the Nidhi's principles and ethical politics were inspiring for all of all, President wished that may all of us imitate his philosophy of austere and ethical lifestyle.
She also said that Nidhi was always in forefront to establish the rights of the people and dedicated himself for the protection of democracy and human rights. Terming Nidhi as 'people's leader', the Head of the State said that the roles played by Nidhi in strengthen national unity and augmenting social goodwill and tolerance would always be notable.
On the occasion, President Bhandari awarded senior journalist Homnath Dahal and litterateur Dr Ramdayal Rakesh with the Mahendra Narayan Nidhi National Award for 2076 BS and 2077 BS, respectively.
Similarly, Bhandari presented Prem Sagardevi Nidhi Award jointly to democracy activist Kashidevi Jha and Giriraj Kumari (Gyanu) Prasai. Both Awards carry the purse of Rs 100,000 each.
Mahendra Narayan Nidhi Memorial Foundation, established in 2058 BS, has been awarding different personalities for their remarkable contribution in the society since 2070 BS.
On the occasion, Nepali Congress Vice-President and honorary chairperson of the Foundation Bimalendra Nidhi said that no changes would be stable until the public could feel the sense of ownership over it. Referring to the latest judicial development, the NC leader Nidhi opined that resolution to political dispute should be sought in the parliament.
Furthermore, he lauded late Nidhi who worked for the equality and strived against and said his deeds were worth emulating for all of us.
Also speaking at the event, coordinator of the Award Selection Committee Dr Bimal Koirala praised Nidhi's simplicity, high morality and said Nidhi had relentlessly fought for democracy, social justice and communal amity.
Foundation President Purusottam Dahal said that Nidhi was a source of inspiration to all Nepalis who believed in non-violence. According to him, Nidhi had proved that changes could be heralded by the means of non-violence.
Awardees including Dahal and Rakesh recalled Nidhi as a humble personality.
