Rahmatganj MFS keep quarterfinals hope alive

DHAKA, -Forward Samin Yasir scored a brace as Rahmatganj

Muslim and Friends Society, came from behind, beat ten men Bangladesh Air

Force Football Team by 4-1 goals in the group B match of Independence Cup

Football held at Bir Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj on

Friday.

With the day’s win, Rahmatganj kept their quarterfinal hope alive with four

points along with Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra who have also equal number of

points. Rahmatganj are however ahead than Sheikh Russel with better goal

difference.

Sheikh Russel Krira Chara will face Abahani Limited in the last match of

Group B tomorrow (Saturday). Sheikh Russel needs only a draw to advance to

the quarters. If Sheikh Russel loses the match against Abahani, than both

Sheikh Russel and Rahmatganj will have equal points. In this case Rahmatganj

will be rocketed to the quarterfinals with a better goal difference.

If Sheikh Russel beat Abahani in their last match, than they will be emerged

as the group B champions with seven points. Abahani Limited already confirmed

their spot of quarterfinal from group B.

In the day’s match, Mohammad Jewel Mia put Bangladesh Air Force Football team

ahead in the 32nd minute while forward Murad Hossain restored the parity for

Rahmatganj in the 33rd minute of the match.

Rahmatganj took the lead as Samin score the second goal in the 44th minute

and he further widened the margin scoring his second and third goal for

Ramatganj in the 55th minute of the match.

Substitute midfielder Md Rifiqul Islam sealed the victory scoring the fourth

goal for the old Dhaka outfit in the 90th minute of the match.
