RPP Chairpersons for party unity

Leaders of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) have said the general convention of the party was held for unity.

Addressing the general convention, Chairperson Pashupati Shumsher Rana informed that he was not filing candidacy for the post of party chair in order to keep the party intact. “This time, I don’t field myself in the party election. It would be bitter if the party splits once I am elected the chair. So, I kindly request both candidates Kamal Thapa and Rajendra Lingden to forge consensus to select party chair this time,” he said, urging all to make the convention a unity convention. However, the result from a democratic process must be accepted, he stressed.

Another Chairperson of the party, Dr Prakash Chandra Lohani, believed that he was confident that this general convention would end groupism in the party and make it united. He reminded the divine thoughts of Prithvi Narayan Shah, saying they helped unite Nepal. He spoke against foreigners entering Nepal in the name of religious promotion.

Dr Lohani worried that no parties did politics for development. According to him, Nepal’s economy could be boosted via tourism promotion by declaring Nepal a Hindu State.

Another Chairperson of the party Kamal Thapa argued this general convention was the unity convention of the party. All three Chairpersons have vowed to keep the party intact.

He stressed the need for adopting the policy of national unity and reconciliation propounded by BP Koirala in 2033BS. “Democracy that protects Nepal’s identity is imperative. The democracy that incorporates all should be promoted and foreign interference denied. State organs are getting enfeebled,” he said, arguing that Nepal’s religion and culture are assaulted in the name of religious secularism.

Founder chairperson of the party and former prime minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand reminded that people were dissatisfied with politics as the injustice drowned justice. For the country and people, Hindu national and monarchy are essential, he underscored.

Candidate for the chairperson of the party and lawmaker Rajendra Lingden viewed it was weakness on the part of leadership in its failure to be a national political party although the people were for Hindu nation and monarchy. He strongly advocated for change in party leadership to establish RPP as a national political party.

The general convention to run for three days will elect new leadership of RPP. After the inaugural session, the close session kicks off Wednesday itself.
