Saenuri Chief to Step down as Early as December 21

nepalnewsgazette.com November 16, 2016     Comment Closed     Trading

Ruling Saenuri Party Chairman Lee Jung-hyun says he will step down as early as December 21st and no later than December 26th, or even earlier.

Lee revealed the plan during a meeting with members of the party's Supreme Council and other senior lawmakers on Wednesday amid growing calls on him to take responsibility for the Choi Soon-sil scandal.

He said he will give up the remainder of his term of one year and eight months and work on addressing various political issues for the next month or so.

In the wake of the former Democratic Party chief Moon Jae-in's declaration to take part in rallies to push for the president's resignation, Lee urged Moon to take a step back. Lee called on the potential presidential candidate to find a resolution within the grounds of the Constitution and law.
