SC directs to allow contractors to contest local level election

The Supreme Court has issued an interim order to not implement the arrangement that prevents contractors to contest the local level election.

A single bench of Justice Nahakul Subedi on Monday issued interim order in the name of Election Commission to not implement the provision to bar contractors to contest the local election. “Do not prevent the individuals involved in contract business to field themselves as election candidates”, the order noted.

With this, the apex court has opened the way for contractors to register nomination and contest in the upcoming May 13 local election.
