The government has further beefed up security along the Nepal-India border areas in view of gradual rise in the number of coronavirus infected people in neighbourng India.
The government has mobilized the armed police force personnel for maintaining border security and preventing illegal activities and movement along the borders. The APF has fulfilled its responsibility by establishing temporary police posts, base camp, border outposts and duty posts in carrying out the designated responsibilities.
Total 13 BOPs have been established in the 51-kilometer area of the district sharing border with India. The APF has recently set up seven temporary BOPs among 51. The armed police force has strengthened its presence along the border areas especially following the Indo-Nepal border is sealed off in an attempt to prevent coronavirus outbreak.
Also, the the APF personnel have been providing security on the bordering areas round the clock through 16 base camps, 82 duty post borders and 13 temporary posts.
APF Superintendent of Police at Sarlahi District Security Office, Gangaram Shrestha said 500 security personnel have been mobilized in every 80 to 100 meters distance.
Most of the APF personnel deployed along the border areas to stop illegal entry of people from India and ensure border security have been forced to stay under tent. Some temporary posts and base camps have been established at homes of the locals while some temporary duty posts and base camps have been set up at local schools.
Similarly, some temporary posts have been placed in makeshift structures made up of bamboo. The armed security personnel have been facing problem due to rainfall and wind taking place almost every day.
A police officer said they are facing problem in tightening security along the border areas due to open border system. “As some Nepalis have possessed home and land in India and same is with some Indians, it has created trouble in security surveillance”.
The APF personnel voiced their complaint that they have also come across basic utilities related problems like drinking water, and electricity and also physical space and infrastructure. —
