Senior Political, Religious Leaders Issue Statement over Choi Scandal

nepalnewsgazette.com November 2, 2016     Comment Closed     General

Senior political and religious leaders have issued a statement calling for a thorough investigation into the Choi Soon-sil scandal and condemning President Park Geun-hye.

The statement said Wednesday that amid growing concerns over the economic and security crisis in the wake of the scandal, the president has lost her leadership and moral authority and the people have lost faith in her management of state affairs.

The statement said it has become impossible to let the president continue to lead the country in the face of widespread public outrage and distrust over the circumstances involving her longtime confidante.

Former Assembly Speakers Park Kwan-yong, Kim Won-ki, Kim Hyung-oh, Chung Ui-hwa and former Prime Minister Chung Un-chan signed the statement along with senior religious leaders such as the Venerable Beopryun.
