KATHMANDU, Nepal, Apr 18 (NNN-NEPALNEWS) - A senior UN official, on Tuesday, praised the government and people of Nepal, for the political transformation in the country over the last two decades.
United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Miroslav Jenca, expressed happiness over the success of Nepal's peace process, during several meetings with government officials, including Foreign Minister, Pradeep Gyawali, in his recent visit to the country.
"In his meetings, Jenca commended the government and the Nepali people, on the success of the home grown peace process, as laid out in the 2006 Comprehensive Peace Agreement, and the political transformation Nepal has undergone, over the last two decades," the statement said.
The UN official congratulated the government of Neal, for holding the landmark provincial assemblies and federal parliament elections, in Nov and Dec last year, in line with Nepal's new Constitution.
"He called Nepal's home grown peace process supported by international community an example in making the aims of sustaining peace a reality.
During his meetings, Jenca underlined the importance of Nepal's membership in the UN Human Rights Council and welcomed the Nepali government's expressed commitment, to amending the Transitional Justice legislation to bring it in line with the Supreme Court judgement of 2015 and international standards
